ELENA

Marketing professional from Cluj-Napoca, a city known for its rich cultural life, historic architecture, and vibrant food scene. After earning her degree, she worked for major Romanian newspapers, initially creating social media content and later focusing on international audiences through multilingual editions. She currently curates the site’s News section and works with the web marketing department.

She loves Romanian gastronomy and often prepares traditional recipes such as sarmale and mămăligă at home (see our Culture section for more). She is also a language enthusiast who speaks five languages fluently and enjoys travelling around the world. She hopes you will gain a new perspective on Romania that goes beyond the usual headlines, while also learning its beautiful language.

ANDREI

Software engineer from Bucharest, Romania’s dynamic capital, known for its lively atmosphere, elegant architecture, and historic cafés. He worked for various Romanian tech start-ups until he decided to focus on his passion for sharing the Romanian language and culture online. He coordinates the IT team, focusing on content delivery across multiple platforms and systems.

What more is there to say? After work, you will often find him sipping freshly roasted coffee at a local barista café while enjoying an amandină or a slice of cozonac as he debates current affairs. He loves Romanian folk revival music as well as hiking with his kids through picturesque landscapes such as the Carpathian Mountains, Piatra Craiului National Park, and the Danube Gorge.

ALEXANDRA

With a sharp eye for engagement and a deep love for all things Romanian, she is the cultural strategist behind our mission. Thanks to her background in digital communication for Romania’s foreign missions, she leads our outreach efforts and strives to present the best of Romania to the world.

Passionate about Romania’s evolving identity, she aims to showcase not only the most celebrated aspects of Romanian culture but also to bring emerging voices and artists at the forefront into the spotlight. When she is not visiting museums or cultural events, she likes to wind down at a local spa or in one of Bucharest’s historic cafés. She recommends immersing yourself in Romanian culture while learning this beautiful language in order to achieve the best results.

FLORIN

Born and raised in Cotnari, a place famous for its historic vineyards and renowned sweet wines, he has always viewed language as more than a set of rules, but rather as a living and breathing expression of identity. After earning his degree in Linguistics and Literature, he spent several years teaching Romanian to international students and creating lessons for language-learning platforms.

As the lead language content developer on our team, he combines academic rigour with the natural, everyday Romanian you would actually hear. When he is not writing lessons or editing, you will likely find him wandering through antique markets in search of pieces of Romania’s complex history to decorate his home, or cycling along the country’s picturesque roads with friends at the weekend.

DIANA

As the editor of the Podcast section, she manages the voiceover and video content production teams. In the past, she worked for well-known multinational companies, helping them localise their products for the Romanian market. Over time, she developed a deep appreciation for the “soul” of Romania and found her purpose through its language.

She joined the team with one clear goal: to make Romanian more accessible. In a digital landscape overflowing with generic phrases and clunky translations, she is committed to offering something authentic. Her aim is for learners not only to master the language, but also to understand how Romania’s history has shaped it into its current form. Hailing from Iași, a city known for its rich cultural heritage, historic universities, and vibrant student life, she enjoys returning to her hometown, especially during the annual Iași International Festival of Education.

MICHAEL

Born in the United States, although his roots were Romanian—his grandparents having emigrated from Cluj-Napoca. He grew up hearing only bits and pieces of the language at home and therefore could not speak Romanian. What began as a vague curiosity about his family background during a work assignment in Romania turned into a lifelong passion for the language and culture, so much so that he decided to relocate.

He is currently in charge of the localisation team, expanding the available Romanian language lessons in English as well as other languages. Having learned Romanian later in life, he is well aware of the difficulties involved, which gives him a unique perspective and insight. He recommends that you persevere, especially at the beginning, as the more you learn, the easier it becomes. In his spare time, he enjoys watching American football matches, watching movies and cooking.
